General Description |
Calcium sulfate is a chemical compound composed of calcium, sulfur, and oxygen. It is commonly found in nature as the mineral gypsum and is also produced as a byproduct of various industrial processes, such as the desulfurization of flue gases in power plants. Calcium sulfate has numerous industrial applications, including as a component in the construction industry for making plaster and drywall, as a food additive in the form of the mineral calcium sulfate dihydrate, and as a coagulant in tofu production. It is also used in agriculture as a soil conditioner to improve the structure and fertility of the soil. Additionally, calcium sulfate has medical uses, such as in the treatment of bone fractures and as a dental cement. |
